About Paraty's Bay
Paraty has over thirty islands and a very jagged coastline. The part of the coast next to the city merges regions with mangroves with regions of the Atlantic Forest. In the more remote parts, where there are no mangroves, the waters are usually very clear. Much of the bay has calm waters, except some beaches of Trinidad where the sea is more agitated, to the delight of surfers.
About Ilha do Araújo
Ilha do Araujo is the second largest island of Paraty and is very close to the mainland, which allows have electricity and fresh water. The quickest way to reach the island is to drive to Praia Grande (ten kilometers from Paraty) and hire a boat to make the crossing. On the side of the island facing the mainland, the water is more turbid due to the proximity of a mangrove, and there is a fishermen community. On the side facing the sea are located most of the vacation homes of the island. There are small business in the caiçara community, but it is better buy the food and everthing you may need in Paraty.
